Art Mobiles

The Art Mobiles are LACMA's traveling classrooms dedicated to teaching students in Los Angeles County public schools about art and culture.

Ancient World Mobile:
Living a Virtuous Life
This traveling studio/classroom is dedicated to teaching sixth-grade students in Los Angeles County public schools about art of the ancient world. The program focuses on Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Southeast Asia and examines the beliefs of early cultures and how they were communicated through art. Program components include resource materials and an in-service session for teachers, an Ancient World Mobile visit, an introductory presentation, and hands-on art experiences. Participating students and teachers are provided with bus transportation for tours of LACMA’s collections of ancient art. The Ancient World Mobile program is aligned with state content standards for history/social science for grade 6.

Maya Mobile:
Art and Trade of Great Civilizations from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance

The Maya Mobile program provides instruction in the art and culture of great civilizations to seventh-grade students in LAUSD schools. This program is designed to help develop students’ understanding of how trade has influenced the arts of the Maya, Aztec, and Inca, as well as the political, social, mythological, and artistic beliefs of Turkey, China, and Renaissance Italy. This program is designed to reach all classes of the seventh-grade level at participating schools and is comprised of an in-service session for teachers, a Maya Mobile visit, and hands-on art experiences. Participating students and teachers are provided with bus transportation to the museum for tours of LACMA’s collections. The Maya Mobile program is aligned with state content standards for history/social science for grade 7.
